  • August World Youth Day With Pope

During the August World Youth Day, it was a scene of out of a movie. Wind was whipping and the lightning was striking. There was everything there that would lead most people to believe that someone or something didn't want this event to happen. Yet despite it all, the pope braved it all and wanted to address the young group of people. This shows that the pope believes in our youth, and maybe, just maybe there is something there that will bring us to a peaceful world in our future.

  • Ghana Focuses Youth Ministries On Environment

Many churches in Ghana have begun impacting their local communities by practicing environmentally friendly activities. The recent activities included planting trees as part of a general mantra to protect the forest. With the backing of the government in such efforts, this move helps show the country that they are united in moving towards a more sustainable future. Additionally, they also are showing how important it is for youth to be involved in these efforts to develop the local community for a sustainable workforce. Preserving the natural resources is in the best interest of any country and young people need to be involved with these movements. They will be the ones who have to live with the changes of an industrialized society as a global entity. This smart move on the part of the Ghana government is just another example of how initiatives need to start from the top and then work down.

  • Japans Foreign Ministry Looks To Young Generation After Earthquake

International Exchange Program In Northeastern Japan

After the March 11 earthquake and major tsunami in Japan, the region is still trying to adjust to the changes that have taken place. One way that Japan hopes to renew the area while providing an experience for young people is through exchange programs with international cooperation. A good amount of money is being secured by Japan encourage participation of about 11,000 youth, including university and high school students mainly from Asian countries (China, etc.) and North American continent. The purpose behind this effort is to educate young people on how people are coping and surviving in after the worst earthquake in Japanese history struck the country. They also want to show the major construction effort underway and how volunteers are needed. This effort by Japan is really amazing. I am continuously impressed by their desire to grow and they show such patience, positivism and group togetherness even during the most difficult times. The world should take note of this and strive to be more like them in this area.
